Drainage Updates

The work at the dry basin was completed this past Friday with the spraying of grass seed after weeks of dancing with the weather!
After the initial dirt work finished several weeks ago, we had a pretty heavy rain which clearly showed areas that were likely to erode again. These areas were reinforced with extra sod and rip-rap (large rock) in an attempt to prevent further issues.
For those who live around the dry basin please do not remove the back silt fencing at the top of the embankment until July at the earliest. The silt fence is a CRITICAL aspect of the restoration work as it slows down the water flow on the embankment and gives the grass a chance to take root.
After a few meetings with the drainage engineer and our contractor, we have come up with a solution to prevent the main ditch from draining into the Fallow Deer cul-de-sac. We don't think this solution will fix all of the issues at the end of Fallow Deer and along Whitetail but it should noticeably improve things.
In the attached image you can see that there will be a wall constructed to prevent the main ditch from flowing into Fallow Deer. Additionally, a new culvert will be installed behind the wall to allow the cul-de-sac to drain. During heavy rain events, the water flowing past the end of the new culvert will actually suck water out of the cul-de-sac.
We are in the final stages of getting a quote for this work. We also are about to get the survey report back that will help us determine what other possibilities exist for addressing drainage issues in that area.
We are in contact with the county about addressing the undersized culvert at the end of Whitetail.
We are also in contact with them about the wall the wedding venue owner put up that prevents the wet basin from draining properly. The county has made it clear that they don't have money to do any projects right now but we are hoping to get their support so that we can do the work ourselves or get into their next budget.
Feel free to ask any questions and we will do our best to answer.
